What Is The Difference Between Streaming And Downloading?
STREAMING
All of Perform's streaming content uses Windows Media Player 9 or above.
Windows Media Player
The player comes inbuilt on almost all machines. If you do not have this player it can be downloaded for free from Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx?displang=en&qstechnology
We recommend that you download the latest version available.
When a clip is streamed, your computer starts to accept the data from the server and begins to play at the same time. In other words, the complete file is not on your system before the clip plays back. If your internet connection is lost or the bandwidth is reduced significantly, playback will be affected. If the connection is lost then the stream will be lost altogether, if the connection speed (bandwidth) reduces you may notice a loss in sounds and/or picture quality
The quality of streamed clips is highly dependant on the speed at which you are connected.
Please note: Streaming of video is not available on dial-up connections.
DOWNLOADS
Downloaded clips are played in the WMP and you need to have version 9 or above installed to be able to view the clips.
When a clip is downloaded, your computer downloads the file data before it plays the clip. In other words, the complete file is on your system before the clip plays back. If your internet speed reduces significantly then the clip will take longer to arrive, but playback will not be affected.
The quality of downloadable clips is not dependent on the speed at which you are connected. If you are using a dial up modem, the clip will take longer to download than if you have a broadband connection.
To download a file, please select the relevant quality/speed option you would like to download, then click the download button and follow the on screen instructions. You will receive a prompt for a DRM licence which you will be prompted towards from the site for the first time.
