The Drum has named Goal the Best Sports News Site at their annual Online Media Awards. Now in its seventh year, the event is held to identify the best, boldest and most original purveyors of news and views from around the world.
Collecting the award for Goal was Goal’s Global Editor-in-Chief, James Marley; Global Production Editor, Rob Parrish, Head of Audience, Sam Brown; and Duty Editor, Miles Chambers.
Speaking after the event James thanked both the readers of Goal and staff whose hard work behind the scenes made the win possible.
Central to the win, was the team’s ability to evolve the ways it delivers news to its tens of millions of monthly users. Over the past twelve months this evolution has included pioneering use of both live and recorded social video, best-in-class use of social platforms including Instagram and Facebook, as well as making editorial and behind the scenes changes to grow search traffic.
Earlier this year Goal was a runner up in the BT Sport Industry Awards’ Digital Platform of the Year category.
Goal is part of Perform Media, a division of Perform Group.
