IMG and Perform were today jointly awarded the contract to advise Conmebol on their commercial rights for club competitions – Conmebol Libertadores, Conmebol Sudamericana and Conmebol Recopa, as well as additional tournaments – for 2019-2022.
Both companies set up a one-off 50/50 joint venture to bid for the business providing the best resources and expertise for a project of this scale and breadth. This addressed all areas in the ITT, including sale of global media rights, sponsorship and licensing, and consultancy on the growth and development of the competitions including digital strategy.
Ioris Francini, co-President of WME|IMG, said: “We are delighted to have won this very competitive and highly-sought after business along with our partners at Perform. We will provide a bespoke and innovative solution, designed to radically enhance the commercial programme and presentation of Conmebol’s club competitions, including the Conmebol Libertadores, Conmebol Sudamericana and Conmebol Recopa, and change the approach towards the core fans and the broader audiences too. This is a very exciting time for South American football.”
Simon Denyer, CEO of Perform Group said: “We are very proud to be awarded the opportunity to work with such a prestigious and globally popular football federation as Conmebol. We look forward to working closely with them to deliver new and exciting opportunities for global fans to experience some of the best football teams and leagues in the world. This unique joint venture between ourselves and IMG will ensure that Conmebol will benefit from the combined digital and commercial expertise of the two companies, and we look forward to delivering a world-leading consultancy and commercial strategy for them.”
IMG and Perform will create a dedicated team and company for this project financed and resourced 50/50. This will provide Conmebol with best in class tools to successfully
implement the commercial programming of the Club Competitions in a way that is new and unrivalled in the marketplace today.
