As the New York Giants toppled the Los Angeles Rams in London last week, the Media and Content divisions took a big step forward in terms of a collaborative approach to event coverage.
The NFL’s International Series – two games at Wembley and one at Twickenham in October – has been the vehicle for a hugely successful partnership between the Global Portals team and Omnisport’s UK-based team.
During pre-game media events, Sporting News’ NFL correspondent Alex Marvez used his contacts to secure exclusive interviews with key players, coaches and administrators. This original content was expertly captured by Omnisport crews and then distributed to multiple clients and markets.
In addition to questioning global stars such as Odell Beckham and Eli Manning, Alex was granted a 30-minute sit-down with Mark Waller, the NFL’s Executive Vice-President of International and interviewed Brad Wing, the Melbourne-born Giants punter, on behalf of Sporting News Australia.
Raoul Simons, Global Head of Content (Portals), said: “The Rio Olympics and Euro 2016 saw a healthy level of co-operation between the divisions, and this was a further step in realising the potential of Perform’s global footprint. The Omnisport team went that extra yard to support Media in making it happen.”
Marc Finch, Managing Editor – Video (News), said: “We clearly saw the benefits of pooling resources with the Global Portals team. We gathered rich and original video for Media and Content clients alike, and have already started planning a similar approach for the Super Bowl and other events.”
