Babelgum is the commercial brand for the global Internet TV network operated by Babel Networks. Babelgum uses peer-to-peer technology to provide the immersive viewing and high resolution quality of traditional TV with the interactive capabilities of the Internet.

 

Babelgum allows users to enjoy free, on-demand, personalized channels. Choosing from niche and mainstream content, users create their own TV channels. Instead of user-generated clips, Babelgum features professional video material on a broad range of topics from lifestyle to sports.

 

Objective

 

With the objective to develop their sports content offering Babelgum engaged Perform to advise a forward-thinking strategy based on sports content and provide a more rounded sports proposition allowing it to deliver highlights of a breadth of top value-add sports properties.

 

How Perform responded

 

Perform's wealth of digital sports rights enabled us to put together a very strong and expansive sports package for our client. Babelgum were one of the first distributors of Ominsport, Perform's daily multi-platform sports channel which includes highlights of Italian Serie A, Portuguese Supa Liga, Euro 2008 Qualifiers and International Friendlies, Latin American World Cup Qualifiers, ATP/WTA Tour Tennis, European PGA Tour Golf and A1GP.

 

Our experience in managing, producing and distributing sports rights meant that Babelgum could take advantage of significant economies of scale - saving time and money by working solely with Perform rather than acquiring individual rights from each agency/rights holder.

 

At the beginning of December '07, Babelgum successfully launched its first sports branded channel around Italian's Serie A content. Further dedicated sports channels will be launched from March '08 onwards as Babelgum looks to further benefit from our extensive rights portfolio.
